Permanent protection visas

2022, Protest for Permanent Protection Visas, Canberra

This is an album of photographs documenting a protest in 2022. Refugees on temporary visas flocked to Canberra, calling for Albanese’s Labor government to make good on its promise to give them permanent protection visas, which would remove limitations on work, study and family reunion, and allow for a more stable life.

At the time of publication, 31,000 refugees were living on temporary visas in Australia, many for over a decade. Most had not seen their families back home for that time, many were eking out a living on the lowest pay, many had not been able to study. None could travel.
